What SSD Benefits are You Entitled To?
If you are eligible for Social Security disability (SSD) benefits, you will be entitled to a monthly payment. This is considered a wage benefit.
At Bleakley Law Offices, we understand that the Social Security system is complex. Our lawyers are here to help you understand the system and, more importantly, to help you get the benefits you deserve. With more than 20 years of experience serving people in Muskegon and throughout Michigan on our side, we know exactly how to achieve that goal.
How are My SSD Benefits Calculated?
Your benefits are based on your earnings and the amount that you contributed into the Social Security system prior to becoming disabled. You are entitled to get these benefits for the length of your disability, even if you attempt to move back into the workforce.
You are able to work part time, provided your earnings remain low enough that they aren't what the Social Security administration would consider substantial. You are also able to try to move back into the workforce full time. If the work attempt is unsuccessful, your monthly benefits will resume immediately.
What About Coverage for Family Members?
SSD benefits can extend to family members. A disabled person's dependent children may be entitled to benefits. In some cases, a spouse may be eligible as well. Social Security also provides benefits for widows and widowers.
What About Medical Costs?
Social Security disability benefits are considered wage benefits. Medicare is designed to cover the medical costs of disabled people. Medicare kicks in only after you have been disabled for a number of months.
